Tencent releases Hy4 with visual understanding and computer use, says weights will follow

Tencent released Hy4, its latest large language model, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, and said it plans to release the model weights and system cards “in the coming days,” according to a company announcement. As of 7:40 a.m. ET Wednesday, Tencent’s Hugging Face page listed only the Hy4 Preview weights it released in August.

Tencent said Hy4 introduces visual understanding for the first time, including image processing, chart analysis and mathematical visual reasoning. It also introduces computer use for the first time, letting the model work with command-line and graphical interfaces, Tencent said, and was trained on professional software such as Blender and CAD.

Tencent said Hy4 ranks among the world’s leading open-source models. Tencent acknowledged that Hy4 still trails the leading closed-source systems, particularly on internal benchmarks for research-level mathematics, long-horizon coding, model self-improvement and advanced visual question answering, the South China Morning Post reported.

Tencent’s announcement says Hy4 “is trained on defensive security data, prioritizing proof-of-concept (PoC) development and vulnerability remediation.” It says the model “incorporates reverse engineering and penetration testing for analysis purposes,” while “offensive materials related to exploitation are explicitly excluded from the training dataset.” Reuters described the filter differently, reporting that Tencent said it excluded material on building hacking tools, breaking into systems and testing systems for weaknesses.

Tencent said security experts from its Xuanwu Lab and Keen Security Lab found no significant concerns about Hy4’s offensive cyber capabilities in the areas they evaluated. Reuters noted that Moonshot AI limited its newest model’s cyber-offensive capabilities last month.

Tencent said Hy4 cut its hallucination rate in internal evaluations to 7.2% from 12.95% for Hy4 Preview. In a blind evaluation it ran with Tencent Financial Technology across 579 financial tasks, Hy4 scored 3.04, ahead of DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 at 2.97, the company said.

Hy4 is available on Tencent Cloud TokenHub, WorkBuddy, CodeBuddy, Yuanbao and other Tencent products, and its API is being made available through OpenRouter and other third-party platforms, Tencent said. Tencent’s announcement says Hy4 keeps Hy4 Preview’s pricing of about $0.90 per million input tokens and $2.70 per million output tokens; Tencent’s August Hy4 Preview page lists $0.834 and $2.501. The company said Hy4 will be 50% off on TokenHub through Dec. 31, 2026, and that WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy are free from Nov. 4 to Nov. 15.
