Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang dismissed warnings that artificial intelligence could wipe out humanity by the end of the decade as “doomsday narratives,” according to a BBC report Monday, September 21, 2026, citing a CBS News interview. The Guardian also covered the remarks the same day.
“2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is 0% chance that’s going to be the end of the world,” Huang told CBS, per BBC. He added: “Scaring people is unnecessary. It is irresponsible.” Predictions of near-term extinction, he said, are “not grounded in science.”
Why the remarks landed now
The comments follow social posts by former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon claiming AI developers believe the technology “could kill us all by the end of the decade,” BBC reported. Those posts fed a wider safety debate that has included slowdown calls from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Huang tied Nvidia’s commercial interest to responsible deployment: “Our company’s success is directly connected to the safe deployment of products and services,” he said. “If we don’t continue to do that, our value would be diminished.”
On industry requests to slow development, Huang told CBS to “read between the lines”: “They’re actually not asking for more laws. They’re asking to be relieved of the laws we do have, and I think that that’s a problem.” BBC said several people who have worked at OpenAI, Meta, and DeepMind expressed similar skepticism that unchecked AI would produce tools that kill people en masse.
Political color around the same fight
President Donald Trump phoned Huang on stage at a Los Angeles tech conference on September 14 and called slowdown fears a “hoax,” BBC noted. Last week Huang also appeared at a UK summit hosted by King Charles, who warned tech leaders of AI’s “existential dangers.”
