Anthropic has signed an $11.6 billion, seven-year cloud-services agreement with Akamai Technologies (AKAM.O) for additional computing capacity to support growing workloads, Reuters reported on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The contract could expand by another $9 billion, bringing the potential total commitment to about $20 billion, Reuters said. Akamai shares surged 22% in extended trading Thursday after the announcement.
Alongside the capacity pact, Akamai issued Anthropic a warrant that could give the AI lab up to about 5% of Akamai’s outstanding common stock. About 2% is expected to vest under the initial $11.6 billion commitment, according to the Reuters wire.
The deal frames a long-dated cloud-services commitment rather than a one-off purchase order: seven years of contracted spend at the $11.6 billion floor, with room for the additional $9 billion expansion Reuters described. The warrant sits alongside that spend, with about 2% expected to vest on the opening commitment and a ceiling of up to about 5% of outstanding common stock.
Reuters did not detail which Akamai products sit inside the agreement, how capacity will be staged over the seven-year term, or how the pact sits relative to Anthropic’s other cloud providers. This brief stays inside those wire limits.

This brief covers the signed $11.6 billion cloud-services agreement, the seven-year term, the optional $9 billion expansion toward about $20 billion, the warrant economics (~5% ceiling / ~2% expected vest on the initial commitment), and the extended-hours share move. It does not invent GPU counts, Claude product roadmaps, or displacement of other cloud vendors beyond what Reuters reported.
