Google has released a native Gemini desktop app for Windows, letting users summon the assistant over whatever they are working on without opening a browser tab. The Verge reported the Windows launch on September 10; XDA said the client is generally available with the same feature set Google lists on its Gemini for desktop download page, including Gemini Spark, Google Drive connections, Nano Banana image generation, and Gemini Omni video tools.
On Windows, Alt + Space opens Gemini over the active app; the same page says Option + Space does the equivalent on Mac. Google’s desktop landing page says the Windows build runs on Windows 10 or later (x64 and ARM64), with launch from the taskbar or system tray as well as the hotkey. The April macOS app already offered a native shortcut workflow; today’s ship puts a matching Gemini-branded desktop client on Microsoft’s OS.
Google positions the app as a full desktop workspace rather than a cut-down chat shell: Spark for multi-step agent work, Gmail/Drive/Docs/Calendar context pulls, and creative tools for images and video. Native extras such as screen sharing and local-folder cleanup with Spark are still described as further along on macOS, with more Windows parity rolling out over time.
