A group of about 10 banks is providing a $22 billion chip loan to support Crux AI, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters carried the Bloomberg account. The debt is meant to fund purchases of Google Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and is reportedly backed by the value of those chips and Crux AI customer contracts.
Lenders named in the Reuters pickup include Goldman Sachs, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, Barclays, BNP Paribas, and Bank of Nova Scotia. Bloomberg’s framing is a bank package lined up for the venture’s chip needs; this brief does not treat the $22 billion as confirmed full drawdown of a closed facility unless later filings say otherwise. Blackstone, Alphabet, and the named banks did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
Crux AI grew out of the May joint venture in which Blackstone said it would commit an initial $5 billion in equity and Google would supply TPUs, software, and services for a U.S. compute-as-a-service business. Blackstone said the venture expected to bring a first 500 megawatts of capacity online in 2027, with plans to scale further.
The reported bank package would add large debt capacity on top of that equity base as AI infrastructure spending stays elevated across Big Tech and specialty cloud providers.
