Anthropic nears $15B pre-IPO credit facility

Anthropic is close to finalizing an expansion of its revolving credit facility to $15 billion, Bloomberg reported Thursday evening, citing people familiar with the matter. The move clears a financing hurdle before the Claude maker files publicly for its IPO.

Morgan Stanley is leading the credit process, Bloomberg said. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Citigroup also hold prominent roles on the facility. The same four banks are reported to be leading the IPO underwriting.

Proactive Investors, also citing people familiar with the talks, said Barclays and Wells Fargo are expected to take key roles on the loan, with Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, and UBS ranked high in the syndicate. A wider group of banks rounds out the book.

The $15 billion target exceeds the roughly $10 billion figure reported last month. Proactive Investors said Anthropic had asked the most active lead banks to commit about $1.25 billion each, with lower tiers stepping down from there. Details can still change, the people said, and several banks declined to comment.

Companies often lock a revolver of this size before formally assigning IPO roles. The facility is as much a timing signal as a balance-sheet event. Anthropic’s annualized revenue run rate has been reported above $65 billion, and the company has already filed confidential IPO paperwork.

This is pre-IPO bank plumbing, not a new Claude model release.
