Amazon said Wednesday that every device in its new Echo lineup comes with an updated version of Alexa+, which it says holds more natural conversations, reasons more deeply, asks clarifying questions and coordinates across more sources to handle complex, multi-step requests, according to Amazon’s newsroom. Reuters reported that Amazon unveiled five Alexa-powered devices: the Echo Show 16, Echo Studio with Home Camera, Echo Dot, Echo Time and Alexa Photo Frame.
On the Echo Show 16, Amazon said, Alexa composes interactive content in real time rather than showing a transcript. In Amazon’s example, a shopper asking about a rain jacket might get a comparison chart, a list of considerations and links. Conversations are organized into Cards, which Alexa can create proactively, such as for planning a day trip. Cards can be pinned and browsed in a Card Gallery, and they also appear in the Alexa app and on Alexa.com.
The Verge reported that Panos Panay, Amazon’s head of devices and Alexa, said the company had “opened up Alexa Plus’ brain a little bit more,” and that the updated assistant can do “deeper research.” In a hands-on, The Verge reported that Daniel Rausch, Amazon’s VP of Alexa and Echo, said the new version “has access to more models and now has more depth of reasoning,” and that a “next best actions” feature offers proactive suggestions based on past conversations.
Amazon said Echo Studio with Home Camera lets Alexa use what the camera sees, such as explaining the rules on a board game box held up to it or recognizing a cereal box to help reorder it. It said the new Echo Dot uses custom AZ3 silicon with an AI accelerator for on-device processing. Alexa Photo Frame, per Amazon, uses Alexa+ to pick photos based on faces, time and sentiment, and to find photos from a spoken description.
The Echo Show 16 is available to preorder from $499.99 and ships later this year. Echo Studio with Home Camera is $249.99, Echo Dot $99.99, Echo Time $199.99 and the photo frame starts at $199.99. Certain features require Alexa+, which is included with Prime. Amazon said hundreds of millions of customers use the new Alexa experiences and talk to Alexa two to three times more; the newsroom post does not define “new Alexa experiences” or break the figure down. The Verge reported that the Echo Show 16’s new interface and features will eventually come to current Echo Show models, but Amazon shared no timeline. Amazon’s newsroom posts do not say when the updated Alexa+ reaches other existing Echo devices.
Reuters reported that Amazon is rolling out the devices as it faces growing competition from Apple, which launched a $299 HomeView smart display earlier this month, and from AI companies with hardware ambitions, such as OpenAI. AI Tech Daily previously covered Apple’s Siri AI on iPhone 18 Pro.
