Meta unveils Muse Charm, a pocket AI gadget that taps Muse without a phone

Meta showed Muse Charm at its annual Connect event — a pocket-watch-sized device with a roughly 2-inch (5-centimeter) screen and a built-in 5G modem that lets users tap into the Muse AI agent without unlocking a phone or opening a smartphone app, Reuters reported.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg presented the gadget at Meta’s Menlo Park headquarters on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The Verge described it as resembling a chunky smartwatch without a strap, with a fingerprint sensor to activate Muse by voice, what appears to be a small camera, and multiple front microphone openings. The Charm cannot make phone calls. A customizable Muse character sits at the center of the display.

Zuckerberg said Meta plans to ship the Charm in time for the holidays in December,” while acknowledging the company has “only built a few of these so far and still needs to finalize finishing materials. He teased a translucent exterior and an “elevated hacker aesthetic,” promising more details soon, The Verge reported.

The hardware push tracks Zuckerbergs reframing of Metas next platform bet. After the costly metaverse wager that inspired the 2021 company rename, he told Connect that “personal superintelligence will not only come first; it will be much bigger and more important,” and that Meta has shifted our focus to building the best devices for personal superintelligence,” Reuters said. Muse is also slated for Meta’s smart glasses lineup.

Muse has drawn millions of downloads in under a month, with some analysts comparing the app’s U.S. launch scale to ChatGPT’s late-2022 debut. Meta shares were down about 2% in Thursday premarket trading after gaining nearly 12% earlier in the week, Reuters said.

Analysts flagged Gen Z and companion-style appeal — IDC’s Jitesh Ubrani likened the form factor to 1990s Tamagotchi toys while cautioning that mass-market adoption is hard. Linda Sui of Smart Analytics Global pointed to the Rabbit R1’s 2024 flop and said Charm may remain an early-adopter nice-to-have” unless it offers functions phones, watches, earbuds, or glasses cannot easily replace.

This brief covers the Connect Charm reveal, December ship target, and analyst caution; it does not invent pricing, final specs, or sales forecasts Meta has not disclosed.
