Nvidia said Thursday it is working with Australian cloud and data-center partners on an expansion that could reach up to 2 gigawatts of AI-related capacity by 2027—enough, Reuters reported, to more than double the country’s current computing load. The chipmaker named partners including Firmus, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk; Nvidia’s own release also lists Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, and ResetData among NVIDIA Cloud Partners and infrastructure operators building on its DSX AI factory platform.
Australia’s present computing capacity is about 1.6 GW, according to lobby group Data Centres Australia citing DC Byte research, Reuters said. Nvidia framed the push as meeting local demand for high-performance AI compute while partners supply land, power, and shell capacity designed to host multiple generations of DSX systems. The company said partner sites would use the DSX stack—accelerated computing, networking, software, and reference designs—rather than Nvidia owning and operating the facilities itself.
The announcement lands as Australia courts data-center investment and faces pressure over energy and water use at large AI campuses. Firmus highlighted Project Southgate as its contribution to domestic and Asia-Pacific AI factory capacity; other partners described liquid-cooled, high-density builds tied to Nvidia’s platform. This brief covers the September 10 capacity target and partner list; it does not audit Australian permitting, power contracts, or individual campus timelines.
