Meta releases Muse Spark 1.3, says it is closing on rivals

Two unlabeled metal bars on a desk, one slightly longer than the other.

Meta Platforms released Muse Spark 1.3 on Wednesday, calling it the company’s most powerful AI model yet, Bloomberg reported. Developers can pay to use the update today. A consumer rollout is coming to Instagram, Facebook, and Meta AI, the company told Bloomberg.

Meta’s chief AI officer said the model’s capabilities are edging closer to OpenAI and Anthropic, according to Bloomberg. That is Meta’s claim. Bloomberg did not publish independent scores in the account available for this brief.

Muse Spark 1.3 is an update to Meta’s most advanced model, not a new family name. Paid developer access is the ship date. The social apps come later. Bloomberg did not give a consumer date, a price, or a token-cost table in the portion of the story that is public.

The release keeps Meta in the paid-model race it started with earlier Muse Spark versions. The company has been trying to close a gap with labs that already sell frontier models through APIs and chat apps. Wednesday’s message, as Bloomberg framed it, is that the gap is narrower and that developers can buy in now.

What is not in the Bloomberg piece is a third-party bake-off. Edging closer is a company line. Most powerful yet is a company line, measured against Meta’s own prior Spark releases. Readers should treat both that way.

The practical news is smaller and firmer. A paid Muse Spark 1.3 endpoint is live for developers. Instagram, Facebook, and Meta AI are next, Meta said. The rivals named in the claim still have public flagships of their own.

Meta is selling a closer race. The receipt is an API key, not a trophy.
