Google brings ads in AI Mode to 10 more countries and launches multiturn ads in the U.S.

Google said it is scaling ads in AI Mode to 10 more countries and is launching multiturn ads in the United States, according to a Google blog post by Shashi Thakur, vice president and general manager of Google Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences. The countries are Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore.

Google said it plans to expand in the fourth quarter of 2026 to additional locales, including Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Search Engine Land reported that the announcement does not give an exact launch date for those markets.

Multiturn ads let sponsored placements appear in follow-up queries within an AI Mode conversation, Google said. Search Engine Land gave the example of a shopper who asks a general question about running shoes and then follows up about cushioning or durability. Google said ads will be clearly labeled “Sponsored” and that it will keep testing new formats.

Google said its research shows people are comfortable with ads in AI Mode and find them highly relevant. It said click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode. A footnote in the post attributes that claim to Google internal data from the United States covering August 20 to September 3, 2026. The post does not give the underlying rates. Google also said queries in AI Mode are on average three times longer than traditional searches, citing a May 2026 Google report on U.S. usage.

TechCrunch reported that Philipp Schindler, Google’s chief business officer, announced the expansion on Alphabet’s third-quarter earnings call on Wednesday (Oct. 28). “We are now scaling high-quality ads within AI overviews in AI mode to more users and queries,” Schindler said, according to TechCrunch. He added that the step “includes taking our monetization footprint global for the first time.” TechCrunch said Schindler described click-through rates for sponsored product listings in AI Mode as comparable to those for organic listings; TechCrunch did not give the data behind that statement.

Separately, TechCrunch reported that Alphabet’s Google Search revenue grew 12% year over year in the third quarter, compared with 17% growth in the second quarter and 19% in the first. Alphabet’s full third-quarter results are in this earnings report.

Google’s blog post does not say how many advertisers are using the new formats or give any revenue figures for ads in AI Mode.
