Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on Wednesday, the small, fast model in its Claude 5.5 family, and said it costs around 75% less to run on average than Haiku 4.5. It is the third Claude 5.5 model in about a month, after Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5, and widens Anthropic’s lineup ahead of a planned IPO, Reuters reported. The release comes about a year after the last Haiku upgrade, 9to5Mac noted.
Anthropic’s pricing page lists Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts up to 100,000 tokens, against $1 and $5 for Haiku 4.5. Longer prompts cost $0.50 and $2.50. Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 is priced 90% lower than Haiku 4.5 for prompts up to 100,000 tokens, which made up about 90% of Haiku 4.5 requests, and 50% lower above that. Its 75% figure also accounts for a new tokenizer that uses slightly more tokens per task.
Anthropic is pitching the model for high-volume, cost-sensitive work such as summaries, classification and database queries, for speed-sensitive jobs like live customer support and browser use, and as a subagent for Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 on coding work. It calls Haiku 5.5 its fastest model to date at standard speed. It is also the first Haiku with an adjustable effort setting, so users can trade cost against intelligence. Anthropic’s models overview lists a 1 million token context window and up to 128,000 output tokens.
Haiku 5.5 is available through the Claude Platform and on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, Anthropic said. AWS said the model is also available in AWS GovCloud (US) through Amazon Bedrock. Anthropic says the model’s cybersecurity safeguards are more restrictive than Haiku 4.5’s and still block penetration testing.
Anthropic also cut prices elsewhere. Cache reads on Sonnet 5.5 now cost 50% less, $0.10 per million tokens rather than $0.20, which the company says makes Sonnet 5.5 around 20% cheaper on most agentic tasks. And this week it will roll out a monthly API credit for Claude Max and Team subscribers: $100 a month for Max 5x, $200 for Max 20x and up to $500 for Team, pooled across users.
