The date is locked. A folding phone is still a rumor. Craig Federighi says there is no timeline for Siri AI on iOS in the EU.
Apple will hold a product event on September 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific time at its Cupertino campus, the company announced Wednesday, Quartz reported. Media invitations carry the tagline ‘Surprise and shine.’ A livestream will run on Apple’s website and YouTube.
The date is firm. Much of the rumored hardware is not. New iPhones and Apple Watches are widely expected. A folding iPhone is circulating among analysts. Quartz treated that device as anticipated, not announced. It is a rumor until Apple shows it.
The event will be the first major launch under incoming chief executive John Ternus, who takes over from Tim Cook on September 1. Cook becomes executive chairman, Quartz reported.
Siri is the software fact that matters for this desk. Apple is expected to show Siri AI, a rebuilt assistant meant to handle tasks inside apps such as messaging and calendars, with iOS 27. It will not arrive on iPhone or iPad in the European Union. Apple said earlier this year that EU regulators rejected every proposal it offered to bring the feature to Europe under the Digital Markets Act, which requires large platforms to give rivals equal access to their systems.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, said in a statement that the Commission’s ‘refusal to engage constructively on solutions that preserve privacy and security means we do not currently have a timeline for Siri AI’s availability on iOS and iPadOS in the E.U.’ Quartz reported that Siri AI will be available on macOS 27 and visionOS 27 inside the EU, but not on iPhone or Apple Watch.
September 9 will have phones. Europe’s iPhone, for now, will not have the new Siri.
